Schneible's 3-Pointer Tames Tigers,
Secures Hudson Valley Victory
Troy, N.Y., January 29, 2002 - With 48 seconds left in a tie game, Hudson Valley Community College's Jeremy Schneible (Greenwich H.S.) took a pass from Paul Bowe (Hudson Falls H.S.) and drilled a 3-pointer to sink SUNY Cobleskill. Schneible's basket gave the Vikings a 68-65 advantage - their biggest lead of the game, to that point - en route to a 71-68 Mountain Valley Conference victory at Troy's McDonough Complex this evening. Hudson Valley would never trail again.
"Coach (Vince Medici) called the play and I was wide open," said Schneible, a second-year guard who finished with 14 points and four rebounds. "I knew as soon as it left my hands that it was going in. Hitting that shot felt good."
Just to make sure Hudson Valley stayed on top, Schneible stole the ball on Cobleskill's ensuing possession and hit a streaking Bowe for a layup bucket. Bowe then sank a free throw with seven seconds left to make it 71-65. Cobleskill made a 3-pointer with one second remaining on the clock, but Hudson Valley outscored the Fighting Tigers, 12-5, in the game's final 3:37.
Fresh off a 77-53 upset of Mohawk Valley Community College, ranked No. 8 in the nation among Division III junior colleges, Hudson Valley has now won six of its last eight games. The Vikings are 11-8 overall. Cobleskill, an Honorable Mention squad in the national poll, is 14-6.
Hudson Valley's Paolo Walker (Columbia H.S.) had a game-high 22 points. He also had eight rebounds. Markael Brace (Albany H.S.) had 13 points and five rebounds.
"We're really starting to come together," Schneible said. "Now, if we just keep working hard, good things will continue to happen."
