Walker And McKinney Each Post A Double-Double In Win
Hudson, N.Y., January 17, 2002 - Paulo Walker (Columbia H.S.) and Jason McKinney (South Glens Falls H.S.) each notched a double-double as Hudson Valley Community College's men's basketball team picked up an 85-60 road win against Columbia-Greene Community College tonight. Walker tallied 14 points and 12 rebounds while McKinney had 12 points and 12 rebounds.
The victory propelled the Vikings over the .500 mark, lifting them to 8-7 overall.
Guard Steve Valente (La Salle Institute) had his second consecutive strong game. Coming off a 15-point effort against Adirondack Community College, Valente hit four 3-pointers in the first four minutes against Columbia-Greene, helping Hudson Valley open up an 18-6 lead. Valente finished with 16 points, and Hudson Valley also put together a 14-0 run late in the first half.
The Vikings placed five players in double figures. In addition to Walker, McKinney and Valente, Joe Bell (Albany H.S.) and Markael Brace (Albany H.S.) had 11 points each.
In the 2000-01 academic year, Hudson Valley's athletic teams combined to win 72 percent of their contests. The ice hockey team won the NJCAA championship, the baseball team earned a berth in the NJCAA World Series and the football team won the Region III title. The women's basketball team earned a No. 1 national ranking and turned in a 24-3 record while the men's hoop squad competed in the Region III championship game. Additionally, two Vikings earned Region III Player-of-the-Year status, 20 were named All-Region III performers, and 10 were honored with All-American status.
