Tom Perren of Brotmanville, N.J., was recently named Most Valuable Player of Hudson Valley Community College's 2000-01 men's basketball team.
Perren, who helped the Vikings post a 22-7 record, also was selected as a member of the NJCAA Division III Region III First Team. A sophomore, he was a Mountain Valley Conference Third Team member. A 6-foot-5, 215-pound center, Perren contributed 11.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, 3.8 blocks and 1.7 assists per game this past season. He also had 35 steals.
During his two-year Hudson Valley career, Perren, known by fans for high-flying dunks, averaged 11.1 points and 6.8 rebounds. In addition to acting as co-captain of the hoop team, Perren served the campus community as the student representative on Hudson Valley's Board of Trustees.
Next, Perren, who came to Hudson Valley from Author P. Schalick High School, will attend Kean University in New Jersey. An Industrial Technology major at Hudson Valley, he will continue his basketball career at Kean, an NCAA Division III school.
Hudson Valley Community College, located in Troy, offers more than 50 degree and certificate programs in four academic divisions; Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Sciences; and Liberal Arts and Sciences. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, Hudson Valley has an enrollment of more than 9,000 students each year, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and worker retraining.
