Playing in His Final Home Game, Columbia Grad Records
A Double-Double As Hudson Valley Downs FMCC 83-60
Troy, February 11 - Adam Vooris (Columbia) made the most of his final home game, posting his first collegiate double-double and pulling down a record-breaking 18 rebounds. The 6-foot-5 second-year forward led Hudson Valley Community College's men's basketball team to an 83-60 Mountain Valley Conference victory over Fulton-Montgomery Community College this afternoon.
The game, Hudson Valley's last at Troy's McDonough Complex during the 2000-01 campaign, pitted the Vikings against Fulton-Montgomery for the second time in four days.
The last time the two teams met, at Fulton-Montgomery on February 8, Hudson Valley dropped a one-point thriller. This time around, the Vikings did all the thrilling. Hudson Valley opened up a 9-0 lead to start the game and led 24-5 after 10 minutes and 30 seconds. Fulton-Montgomery could get no closer than eight points, and Hudson Valley led by 15 points at halftime.
The Vikings advanced to 17-6 with the win. Fulton-Montgomery is now 15-9.
In addition to controlling the boards (Vooris' 18 rebounds are the most during the Vince Medici era at Hudson Valley; Medici took charge of the Vikings in 1995 and three other players - Vince Phinn, Tygee Washington and Greg Malm - have recorded 14 rebounds since then), Vooris staunched a brief second half run by Fulton-Montgomery. Seven minutes into the second half, he scored six consecutive points during a 1:11 stretch, extending Hudson Valley's lead to 60-39.
Vooris finished with 11 points. He also had a block and a steal.
Second-year guard/forward Kurt Bush (Newcomb-Minerva) had a game-high 18 points. He also had eight rebounds and six assists. Freshman guard Paul Bowe (Hudson Falls) had 14 points. Second-year center Thomas Perren (Brotmanville, NJ) contributed 13 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Dustin Manny (Catholic Central) picked up seven boards.
Eleven players scored for Hudson Valley.
