Bush Leads All Scorers With 23 Points
As Vikings Improve To 12-3
Troy, January 23 - The Vikings used a strong defensive effort and the hot hand of second-year guard/forward Kurt Bush (Newcomb-Minerva) to put away Schenectady County Community College at Troy's McDonough Complex this evening. Hudson Valley Community College won the Mountain Valley Conference matchup, 91-57.
Bush was the game's top scorer, contributing 23 points, including 13 in the second half. He had six rebounds, hit four of Hudson Valley's eleven 3-pointers and was a solid contributor during Hudson Valley's 15-0 run to begin the contest. He had two steals and a bucket during the stretch.
Bush also brought the McDonough Complex crowd to its feet midway through the second half with a thunderous dunk over a 6-foot-4 Schenectady player. Then, two minutes later, he drilled a 3-pointer as a Schenectady player knocked him to the floor. Bush also hit the ensuing free throw.
The Vikings (12-3) forced Schenectady (7-11) into five turnovers in the game's first six minutes and 25 seconds. The Royals missed their first eight field goal attempts. Jeremy Schneible (Greenwich) scored seven of Hudson Valley's first 15 points. The first-year guard finished with 11 points.
Hudson Valley never trailed and after the 15-0 spurt, Schenectady got no closer than seven points. Hudson Valley coerced the Royals into committing 23 turnovers, and Schenectady shot just 35 percent from the field.
Thomas Perren (Brotmanville, NJ) scored 18 points for Hudson Valley. Jason McKinney (South Glens Falls) had 16 points and 11 rebounds. R.J. Mann (Canajoharie) had 10 points and six rebounds. In all, 10 Hudson Valley players reached the scoring column. Kyle Miller (Columbia) had eight assists.
