Kurt Bush Leads Way with 24 Points and 10 Rebounds
Troy, December 9 - Ten Hudson Valley Community College men's basketball players reached the scoring column as the Vikings defeated Mountain Valley Conference rival SUNY Canton 81-76. Hudson Valley, ranked sixth in the nation among NJCAA Division III teams, never trailed.
Led second-year forward Kurt Bush's (Newcomb-Minerva) hot hand, the Vikings opened up a 16-6 lead and cruised to a 17-point advantage by halftime. Bush, who sat much of the second half as head coach Vince Medici rotated players off the bench, scored 17 points in the game's first 20 minutes. He finished with a team-high 24 points, including six three-pointers and a three-point play. He also had ten rebounds and three assists.
The Vikings dominated play in the opening half, collecting 19 offensive rebounds en route to a 42-25 edge. That margin allowed Medici to showcase his team's depth, and 10 Vikings scored at least one point. Jason McKinney (South Glens Falls) and Thomas Perren (Brotmanville, NJ) each had 11 points. Perren also had seven rebounds and three blocks. Kerey Johnson (Schenectady) had 10 points.
Hudson Valley, who hit 10 three-pointers, is now 9-1. Because of a winter break, the Vikings do not play again until January 12, when they will partake in the Champlain Tourney. Canton is now 3-7.
