Hudson Valley Community College basketball player Kerey Johnson was named National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region III Male Athlete of the Week in the weekly Region III report released today. Johnson, a Schenectady native who attended Albany High, was honored for scoring a total of 28 points in the Vikings' two most recent games. The second-year forward was 4-for-6 from the 3-point line and 9-for-17 from the field.
The report includes statistics from more than 30 two-year colleges from across the Northeast.
Both the men's and women's basketball teams are ranked second in the NJCAA Region III Division III coach's poll. Hudson Valley's men are 5-0; the women are 6-0.
The Lady Vikings are ranked fourth in team defense, allowing 49.0 points per game, and third in team offense, scoring 72.1 points per game. Freshman guard/forward Lindsey Bradt (Bishop Maginn) is second in scoring among Division III players, tallying 20.3 points per contest. She also is second in field goal percentage (64.1) and free throw percentage (87.5).
The men's hoop team is second in team defense, giving up just 66.8 points per game, and fourth in team offense, averaging 79.4 points per game.
Hudson Valley's hockey team (5-2) is ranked third on the report.
Hudson Valley Community College, located in Troy, offers more than 50 degree and certificate programs in four academic divisions; Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Sciences; and Liberal Arts and Sciences.
