The Hudson Valley Community College football program was defeated by a superior Sussex program 44-7 in Sparta, NJ on Sunday afternoon.

The Vikings were held to just seven points, which was scored on an interception by Ameer Bateman, his second defensive touchdown in consecutive weeks. The Region 3 Football Player of the Week, Bateman, added five total tackles to go with his 38-yard interception return.

Hudson Valley's offense was held to 16 total yards on six passing yards and 10 rushing yards with three rushing first downs over the course of 41 total plays.

Sussex accumulated 469 yards of offense on 72 total plays with 227 passing yards and 242 rushing yards on 39 rushing attempts.

The Vikings have to move on quickly as they are set to travel to Erie on Saturday, Oct. 21 for the NJCAA Region 3 Championship. The championship game is set for a noon kickoff at Williamsville South High School in Williamsville, NY, a suburb of Buffalo.
