The Hudson Valley Community College football team won its third Region 3 Championship since 2019 after defeating rival Erie Community College 35-13 on Saturday afternoon at the Outdoor Athletic Complex at HVCC. 

The featured momentum shifts of in each half of the game for Hudson Valley. They Vikings jumped out on fire against Erie in the first half, scoring five straight touchdowns to take a 35-0 advantage at the halftime break. 

In the second half, it was a different story as the Katz outscored the Vikings 13-0, but Hudson Valley managed to explode for a big enough lead in the first that the game was out of reach and the Region 3 championship was locked in for the Vikings at the break.

Highlighting the explosive first half, the Vikings offense totaled five touchdowns, including four passing touchdowns from Jordan Moran. Moran finished the game passing 14-of-29 for 127 yards with four touchdowns to four different receivers and two interceptions. 

As a team, the Vikings ran for 231-yards and were led by Kevin Mayfield, who excited the crowd with his 57-yard rushing touchdown at the 12:53 minute mark in the second quarter. Kicker Frederick Callo finished a perfect 5-for-5 on extra point attempts. Callo has made 46 extra point attempts in his career at Hudson Valley, one shy of the all-time career record held by Bobby Collett (2004-05). 

Defensively, the Vikings held the Erie Katz without a first down for the entire first half of the game as they continued to put pressure on the offensive line, making big tackles and big plays to help the Vikings offense get back on the field. Sebastian Farrar had a tremendous game with three interceptions for over 100 interception return yards. La'Breilyn Wilson led the defense with 11 total tackles and Angelo Cioffi was right behind him with 10 total tackles as the defense held Erie to 260-yards of total offense. 

The Vikings improved to 5-3 on the season as they prepare for the final two weeks of the regular season, which concludes with a road rematch with Nassau on Nov. 5 in Garden City, NY.
