The Hudson Valley Community College football program welcome the Capital Region Military Veterans and First Responders to the game for the 4th Annual Military Appreciation and First Responders Day on Saturday afternoon at the Outdoor Athletic Complex for a NJCAA top-5 matchup against No. 2 Nassau.

The No. 5 ranked Vikings started the game strong on the defensive end as they forced a quick possession change, giving the offense the momentum for a quick strike and a 7-0 advantage in the first quarter. Jordan Moran floated a beautiful fade pass to the back pylon as Omari Hopkins completed the over-the-shoulder catch for the 13-yard touchdown score.

However, the 2021 NJCAA runner-up, Nassau, continued to eat away at the Vikings and broke them down late in the game to pull away for the 34-7 win. At the halftime break, Vikings trailed 14-7 and received the ball to start the third quarter.

Hudson Valley had some nice runs and strikes against the tough Lions defense but couldn't take advantage of small windows in the defensive scheme of Nassau. Nassau went on to score three more times in the second half, which included a heart-breaking 84-yard touchdown pass by Luke Sprague with 3:49 remaining in the game.

The Vikings return to Region 3 action next Saturday as they travel to take on Erie Community College in Buffalo. The game is scheduled to kickoff at 12 p.m.
