Football Wins Behind Rango's Record Day

The Hudson Valley Community College football team (1-5) earned their first victory of the year behind a record-breaking performance by quarterback Nik Rango (East Fishkill / Trinity Pawling). The Vikings defeated Ithaca JV 42-22 on the road on Sunday afternoon. 

Rango threw for a program record 412-yards with 20 completions on 33 attempts. He also tossed five touchdown passes to set the Vikings all-time record for touchdown passes in a single game. 

There were seven Vikings on the receiving end of Rango's record-setting passing day. Led by Melvin Reid (Camden, NJ/Winslow Township) and John Daly (Sparkill/Tappen Zee), the duo combined for 12 catches for 307 yards and four touchdowns. Reid finished with five catches for 162 yards and a score, while Daly was on the receiving end of three touchdown passes, including a 65-yard score on the first play of the game to give the Vikings the early 7-0 lead. Daly finished with seven catches for 145 yards. 

Receiver Rasheed Teasley (Dover, DE/Caesar Rodney) also had a big day for the Vikings as he caught four passes for 103 yards and a touchdown. 

Place kicker, Nathan Fankhanel (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) had a perfect day as he converted on all six extra-point attempts.

The Vikings defense combined for 71 total tackles and added five sacks for a loss of 38 yards. Sophomore defensive tackle, Charles Ransom (Jersey City, NJ/Henry Snyder) led the Vikings with eight tackles and one blocked kick. Jon Underwood (Beacon/Beacon) tallied seven tackles and added a fumble recovery to the stat sheet today. 

Hudson Valley will stay on the road this Saturday, October 15 as they travel to play Valley Forge Military College. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
