Football Falls 28-27 in Overtime

Hudson Valley Community College football (1-9) concluded the 2017 season today after falling to The Apprentice School 28-27 in overtime.

Trailing 21-14 with 3:13 remaining in the game, the Vikings marched down the field in 10 plays to tie the game up at 21-21 with 44-seconds remaining. Wesley Manning (Setauket/Ward Melville) completed the comeback drive with a 14-yard touchdown pass to Shaquille Edmond (Farmingdale, N.J./Wall) in the back of the end zone.

In the overtime period, the Vikings scored on their opening drive as the duo of Manning and Edmond connected once again for a touchdown pass in the back of the end zone, giving the Vikings the 27-21 advantage. The Vikings missed the extra point and opened the door for The Apprentice School to win with a touchdown.

The Apprentice School took advantage of the opportunity as Ethan Bryce scored on a five-yard run, tying the game at 27-27. Zack Schwenke converted the extra-point and secured the 28-27 win over the Vikings.

Manning finished the game with 138 passing yards on 13-for-25 with three touchdowns and one interception. Andres Blanco (Poughkeepsie/Spackenkill) and Amani Murphy (Brooklyn/Brooklyn Technical) combined for 122 rushing yards. Blanco ran the ball 18 times for 69-yards and Murphy had 11 attempts for 53-yards. Wide receiver John Daly (Sparkill/Tappen Zee) had five catches for 77 yards.

Defensively, Kapone Brown (Woodbury/Woodbury) had a game-high 10 total tackles and a fumble recovery. Richard Eversleigh (Tampa Bay, Fla./Wiregrass Ranch) and Isaiah Moak (Averill Park/Averill Park) each added eight tackles. Tyler Sims (Duluth, Ga./Peachtree Ridge) and Rashwan Woody (Bronx/Hartford) combined for 13 tackles and two sacks.
