Hudson Valley Community College football (1-7) couldn't overcome the slippery conditions and the steady rain as Erie Community College defeated the Vikings 43-14 on Saturday afternoon in Orchard Park, N.Y.

Erie put together two scoring drives to jump on the Vikings early in the first quarter as Laquan White completed the Kats scoring drive with a 17-yard run and later Mark Lanier recovered a fumble and returned it 19-yards for the touchdown, giving the Kats the 14-0 advantage.

Erie added nine more points in the second quarter on a safety and a DeWayne Lykes touchdown run as the Kats entered the half with a 23-0 lead.

Hudson Valley came out of the break and put together a scoring drive that consisted of 11 plays for 75-yards when Tajmaleeak Beckett (Jamaica/Flushing) found Will Spring (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) open for the 8-yard touchdown pass. Kicker Nathan Fankhanel (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) converted the extra point.

Beckett led the Vikings again in the fourth quarter with a quick strike to Shaquille Edmond (Farmingdale, N.J./Wall) for a 43-yard touchdown pass with 3:49 remaining. Linnea D'Acchille (Easton/Greenwich) converted the extra point for the Vikings.

The Vikings are home this weekend when they welcome the Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS) on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 12 p.m. The game will be streamed live at www.athletics.hvcc.edu.
