Hudson Valley Community College football (1-6) was shutout 24-0 by Monroe College (7-1) on Saturday afternoon at the Outdoor Athletic Complex in Troy, N.Y.

Monroe took the early 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a 53-yard touchdown pass from Jalen Brown to Shea Holbrook. The Vikings and Monroe then went back-and-forth, alternating possessions and the Mustangs entered halftime leading 7-0.

The Vikings opened the second half with a successful onside kickoff to steal possession from the Mustangs at the start of the third quarter. The Hudson Valley was unable to move the ball and after a Vikings mistake, the Mustangs took over on downs at the Vikings 42-yard line. The Mustangs scored six plays later to go up 14-0.

Monroe scored again in the fourth quarter on a 3-play, 38-yard drive that was cemented by Rasheed Martin's two-yard touchdown run.

The Vikings defense recorded six sacks for a loss of 35 yards and Jaleel Kyles (Elmira/Putnam Academy) grabbed the Vikings lone interception in the third quarter.

Football is on the road next week as they travel to play Erie Community College on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 12 p.m.
