The Hudson Valley Community College football team (5-2) defeated ASA College (6-3) 41-7 on Saturday afternoon.
Hudson Valley scored 41 unanswered points to open the game en route to a 41-7 rout over ASA College. Jaylen McIntyre (CBA/Latham) got the Vikings on the board with a 27-yard touchdown reception from Rafael Hidalgo (Franklin K. Lane/Woodhaven) in the first quarter. McIntyre would score on 26 and 18-yard runs to cap his big day of 150 total yards for three touchdowns.
The offense got creative in the second quarter scoring on a flea-flicker from 30 yards out to Jacob Bivona (Stamford/Stamford, CT), and Hidalgo would later hookup with Craig Hardgers (Greece Olympia/Rochester) for a 6-yard score. DeAngelo Simpson (Surratsville/Clinton, MD) came into the game to score on a two-yard run after Hidalgo went down on the drive.
Hidalgo finished the day going 12-19 through the air for 213 yards and three touchdowns, while Hardgers led all receivers with 105 yards and a score.
Although the offensive put up big numbers, it was the defensive unit that shined on Saturday. The Vikings gave up only seven points, which came late in the game to prevent the shutout. Marino Fabozzi (Johnstown/Johnstown) led the team with seven tackles, and Chandler Foster (Stamford/Stamford, CT) recorded five tackles and an interception. Jared Sanchez (John Jay/Hopewell Junction) created pressure in the backfield all day recording 2.5 sacks, and Derrick Tate (Edmondson/Baltimore City, MD) added two sacks, two fumble recoveries and a forced fumbles in the Vikings big win.
The Vikings close out their season next Saturday against Navy Prep at noon.
