The Hudson Valley Community College football team (4-2) defeated Monroe College (2-3) 45-21 on Saturday afternoon.
Monroe scored the first touchdown of the game, but the Vikings marched right down the field to score on a 2-yard Jamal Williams (Choate Rosemary/New Bedford, CT) touchdown. Jordan Newton (Albany Academy/Selkirk) added a 23-yard field at the end of the half to give Hudson Valley a 10-7 lead at the half.
The Vikings would come out in the second half and score back-to-back touchdowns off a 5-yard pass to Joe DiNapoli (Williamsville/Buffalo) and a 74-yard punt return by Antoin Montgomery (Bishop Ludden/Syracuse). Williams added another touchdown on the ground before Monroe scored on a 25-yard fumble recovery to make it 31-21 heading into the fourth. In the fourth, Rafael Hidalgo (Franklin K. Lane/Woodhaven) found Montgomery for a 42-yard touchdown, and Jaylen McIntyre (CBA/Latham) added a 16-yard run to give Hudson Valley a 45-21 win.
McIntyre led the rushing attack for the second straight week with 135 yards, and Drew Burdsall (Pennsville Memorial/Pennsville, NJ) led all receivers with five catches for 85 yards. Defensively, Jared Sanchez (John Jay/Hopewell Junction) was in the backfield all day, recording two sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss, and Jon Miller (Pelham Memorial/Pelham) added two sacks of his own. Marino Fabozzi (Johnstown/Johnstown) recorded a sack and three tackles for loss, and Chandler Foster (Stamford/Stamford, CT) added 4.5 tackles and an interception in the win.
The Vikings are off next week, but are back in action on October 24 against ASA at 1:30 p.m.
