The Hudson Valley Community College football team (2-2) defeated Erie Community College (1-2) 31-21 on Saturday afternoon.
Craig Hardgers (Greece Olympia/Rochester) scored on the first play of the Vikings opening possession for the second straight week. Last week, Hardgers scored on a 75-yard reverse and this week he scored on a 53-yard pass from Rafael Hidalgo (Franklin K. Lane/Woodhaven). On the following Erie possession, Chandler Foster (Stamford/Stamford, CT) forced and recovered a fumble, taking it all the way in for a 19-yard touchdown. Darrius Bryant (Indian River/Philadelphia, PA) scored on a 19-yard run to give the Vikings a 21-9 lead heading into the half.
After Erie scored a touchdown at the end of the third, Hidalgo found Drew Burdsall (Pennsville Memorial/Pennsville, PA) for a 25-yard touchdown, giving Hudson Valley a 31-15 lead, which they would hold on to win 31-21. Antoin Montgomery (Bishop Ludden/Syracuse) led the Vikings with four receptions for 78 yards, and Bryant led the rushing attack with 81 yards.
Defensively, Marino Fabozzi (Johnstown/Johnstown) led the team with 10 tackles, and Foster and Anthony Simpson (Woodlawn/Baltimore, MD) each added eight tackles. Derrick Tate (Edmondson/Baltimore City, MD) recorded a sack, and Foster added an interception to go along with his forced fumble and fumble recover touchdown.
The Vikings host East Coast Prep next Saturday at 1 p.m.
