The #17 Hudson Valley Community College football team (8-0) defeated Globe Tech (2-5), 34-7, on Saturday afternoon.
The Vikings run game, led by Tyler Gagnon's (LaSalle Institute/Troy) 76 yards rushing and touchdown, was dominant accounting for 208 of the teams 230 total yards. K'Vaunte Smith (Archbishop Spalding, Baltimore County, MD) and Shatiek Lewis (Troy/Troy) helped the Vikings jump out to an early 14-0 lead with rushing touchdowns of nine and ten yards respectively.
Leading 14-7 at the half, Hudson Valley outscored Globe 20-0 in the second half. Elijah Udoh (Manchester/Manchester, CT) and Gagnon each got in the endzone, capping off an impressive performance by the four running backs. The Vikings other score came from a 20-yard pass from Rafael Hidalgo (Brooklyn Lab/Queens) to Antoin Montgomery (Bishop Ludden/Syracuse).
The defense was led by Kevin Melder's (Rochester/Eastridge) 10 tackles and Sean Copeland's (Baltimore, MD/Overlea) nine in the win.
The Vikings travel to Navy Prep for their final regular season game on Saturday for a kickoff at 1 p.m. A victory would secure only the second undefeated regular season in the history of the football program.
