The Hudson Valley Community College football team (2-0) defeated Brockport JV, 28-25, on Sunday afternoon.
Rafael Hidalgo (Brooklyn Lab/Queens) came in at quarterback in the second quarter and delivered a 96-yard strike to Chris Osterman (FDR/Poughkeepsie) to give the Vikings a 7-6 lead. Tyler Gagnon (LaSalle/Grafton) tacked on a six-yard run right before the half to give the Vikings a 14-6 advantage.
Brockport JV answered back in the third quarter with a pair of touchdowns to give them a 19-14 lead heading into the fourth. The fourth quarter belonged to running back Elijah Udoh (Manchester/Manchester, CT) as he scored on runs from 8 and 55 yards out, even completing a two-point conversion to give the Vikings a 28-25 lead in which the game would end.
The offense had a pair of 100-yard rushers in Udoh (110) and Gagnon (107), and Osterman led all receivers for the second straight game with four catches for 130 yards and a touchdown.
The defense stepped up to seal the game as Brockport JV had one last opportunity. Back-to-back sacks from Derrick Tate (Edmondson Westside/Baltimore City, MD) and Sean Copeland (Overlea/Baltimore City, MD) forced a turnover on downs where the Vikings could just take a knee. Malik Pryor (Myrtle Beach/Myrtle Beach, SC) led the defense with eight tackles and a forced fumble. Copeland added six tackles a sack and forced fumble, and Tate recorded five tackles, a sack and a tackle for loss. Kevin Melder (Eastridge/Rochester) and Chase Knight (Lakeside/Ashtabula, OH) each recorded an interception in the win.
The football team travels to Dean on Saturday for a game at 1 p.m.
