The Hudson Valley Community College football team (1-3) lost to Nassau Community College (6-0) 68-20 on Friday evening.
The Vikings jumped out to an early lead when Nick Casale (Tamarac/Troy) hit Larry Zimmerman (Pine Grove/Pine Grove, PA) for a 75-yard touchdown. Nassau scored on their first drive, but Antwon Burney (Coral Gables/Miami, FL) returned the ensuing kickoff for a 103-yard touchdown. The Lions scored again to take a 14-12 lead, but the Vikings fought right back with a Donnie Neal (Lewis/Baltimore, MD) two-yard run. The Vikings had an 18-14 lead in the first quarter over the #5 team in the nation, but it was all Nassau after that. The Lions went on to score 54 unanswered points, en route to a 68-20 victory.
Zimmerman led the Vikings with five catches for 159 yards and one touchdown, while Burney racked up 194 all-purpose yards. Justin Bynum (Middletown/Middletown) had his best day in a Viking uniform with 16 tackles, and Ashton McKenzie (Clinton/Bronx) recorded three tackles for loss and a sack. McKenzie is seventh in the nation with five sacks on the year.
The Vikings host Monroe on Saturday at 1 p.m.
