The Hudson Valley Community College football team (0-1) lost to Lackawanna Community College (2-1) 41-12 on Saturday afternoon.
The Vikings got off to a slow start but got two late scores in the fourth quarter on long plays. The first came off of special teams when Matt White (Amsterdam/Amsterdam) ran back an 82-yard kickoff return. Later in the quarter, Eric McCoy (Central Islip/Central Islip) came in the game at quarterback and connected with Varney Dassin (Wissahickon/Ambler, PA) on his first pass attempt for a 72-yard touchdown. Dassin had a big game at receiver with seven catches for 121 yards and a score. Chase Knight (Lakeside/Ashtabula) led the defense with 6.5 tackles, two pass breakups and an interception. Ezekiel Sierra (Sleepy Hollow/Philadelphia, PA) and Terrell Lawrence (Saugerties/Saugerties) each recorded a sack in the loss.
The football team hosts Dean next Saturday at 1 p.m.
