The Hudson Valley Community College football team (0-7) lost to Navy Prep (6-0) 21-7 on Saturday afternoon.
The Vikings trailed 7-0 at the half on a Navy Prep interception return touchdown early in the first. Devon Greene (Battlefield/Gainesville, VA) scored on a quarterback keeper to tie the game with eight minutes left in the fourth quarter. On the ensuing kickoff, Navy Prep took the kickoff 80 yards to retake a 14-7 lead. After a strong fourth-down stand at the goal line, the Vikings regained possession on their own two- yard line. Hudson Valley fumbled on the second play which was recovered by Navy Prep in the end zone to seal a 21-7 victory.
The Vikings defense played its best game of the season, not allowing a score as Navy Prep only scored on an interception return, fumble recovery and kickoff return. Leading the defense, was Nick Gilbo (Moriah Central/Port Henry) with 11 tackles and Matt Falico (Fayetteville-Manlius/Syracuse) with nine and a forced fumble. Darryl Haley (Woodbridge/Woodbridge, VA) and Trey Garvey (Woodbridge/Woodbridge) both recorded interceptions in the defensive effort.
C.J. Jones (Woodbridge/Baltimore, MD) finished the game with 100 rushing yards and 49 receiving yards and Devon Greene rushed for 58 yards and a touchdown.
The Vikings end the regular season next Saturday at home against Alfred State at noon. The winner will play Erie Community College for the Region III Championship on Saturday, Nov. 5.
