The Hudson Valley Community College football team (0-5) lost to #19 Nassau Community College (5-1) 21-14 on Saturday evening.
The Vikings fell behind 14-0 late in the second quarter, but a two-yard touchdown by Nathaniel Robinson (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga) pulled the Vikings within seven. Hudson Valley tied the score at 14 after a 15-yard touchdown run by C.J. Jones (Woodbridge/Baltimore, MD). A late third quarter touchdown by Nassau put them up 21-14 heading into the fourth quarter. The Vikings hit some bad luck when C.J. Jones caught a pass in the flats and ran it all the way down to the Nassau two- yard line where he fumbled and sent the ball out of bounds in the end zone. The result was a touchback with Nassau regaining possession at their 20-yard line. The Vikings held strong, but were not able to get in the end zone, losing a very tight game 21-14.
C.J. Jones led the Vikings with 145 all-purpose yards. Jones had 87 yards on the ground and one catch that was good for 58 yards and a touchdown. Nathaniel Robinson was the other Viking who scored, rushing for 46 yards on the day. Dexter Green (N. Myrtle Beach (SC)/Syracuse) led all receivers with four catches for 80 yards, while Nick Gilbo (Moriah Central/Port Henry) led the defense with seven and a half tackles.
The Vikings are off this coming weekend, but will host Louisburg on Saturday, Oct. 22 at noon.
