Michael Muehling, formerly with the Syracuse University football program, has been appointed athletic academic coordinator/head football coach at Hudson Valley Community College, according to Director of Athletics Kristan M. Pelletier. His appointment concludes a national search to replace former head coach, Jason Houghtaling, who resigned to become the offensive coordinator at Wagner College. Muehling served as the defensive quality control coach for two seasons as a member of Doug Marrone's staff at Syracuse.
"Mike is an extremely talented coach, who is also an exceptional person. His character, integrity and work ethic will allow him to be successful on and off the football field at Hudson Valley Community College," commented Pelletier.
Prior to joining Syracuse University, Muehling spent four seasons at Indiana University where he served as the offensive quality control coach, assistant defensive line coach and assistant strength and conditioning coach. He also spent one season in the AF2 (Arena Football) at the professional level as an assistant coach. He brings with him more than six years experience working with student-athletes at the intercollegiate level, and is fully prepared with the skill set necessary to be a successful athletic academic coordinator while simultaneously providing oversight and leadership to the football program. Muehling was part of the two coaching staffs that contributed to the revitalization of both Indiana University's and Syracuse University's football programs.
Syracuse University Head Football Coach Doug Marrone states, "He has exceptional knowledge and understanding of the game of football. Not only is he a great teacher and motivator, but more importantly, he truly cares about what is best for the young men under his guidance. He is a quality person of exceptional character, is extremely bright and is a highly capable coach."
Muehling played intercollegiate football on an academic scholarship at Lindenwood University where he received a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology/Athletic Training. He earned a master's degree in Kinesiology at Indiana University.
