The Hudson Valley football team (5-3, 3-2) demolished Globe Institute of Technology (2-6), 39-0 on Oct. 24, in Brooklyn. The Vikings took a 37-0 lead into the halftime break.
Scores came from the ground and the air for the Vikings. Owusu "Chief" Anane (Boys and Girls, Brooklyn) had a quite a homecoming as he got the Vikings on the scoreboard after breaking a 41-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Chief's run opened up the flood gates as the Vikings put together healthy scoring drives resulting in another four touchdowns before the half. Ednut Egberongbe (Far Rockaway, Far Rockaway) caught a nine-yard pass from Andreas Hudson (Frankford, Philadelphia, PA). Hudson connected with receiver Akeem Jordan (Carroll, Washington D.C.) on an impressive fade route to the corner of the end zone. Ishmael Jordan (Watertown, Watertown) got in on the action with a two-yard run for a touchdown on the goal line. Finally, speed demon wide receiver Darryl Thompson (John Marshall, Rochester) scored on a reverse to make the score 35-0.
Special teams also played a role in the scoring as the group blocked a punt out of the back of the end zone for a safety, making the score 37-0 at the half. Kicker David Fox (Tamarac, Troy) also went five-for-five on point after attempts in the contest. The Vikings recorded another safety in the second half for the final score of the game.
The defense put together another great performance as they were relentless with their pressure on the Globe offense and owned the line of scrimmage the entire game. The Viking "D" gave up only 40 yards on 48 plays for an astonishing average of less than one yard per play from scrimmage.
The Vikings will try to make it four wins in a row as they battle RPI JV on Sunday, Nov. 1 at noon here on the Hudson Valley Community College campus.
