The Hudson Valley Community College football team (4-3, 3-2) handled Alfred State (3-3, 0-2) in every facet of their NFC matchup Saturday, Oct. 17, coming away with a 35-7 victory.
Alfred got on the scoreboard first with a touchdown early in the second quarter, but that would be their only points as the Viking defense shut down another conference opponent for the second week in a row, forcing three interceptions and six fumbles, three of which were lost. The defense was responsible for getting the Vikings in the scoring column with a 49-yard "pick six" by cornerback Akeem Cunningham (East Orange, East Orange) in the second quarter to tie the game at seven. After another defensive stop, quarterback Andreas Hudson (Frankford, Philadelphia, PA) and company marched down the field in 59 seconds, going 56 yards for a game-turning touchdown with 9 seconds left in the half. The scoring drive was capped off by a 13-yard touchdown pass from Hudson to Raymond Mack (North County, Baltimore, MD).
The second half began with more of the same as the Vikings' running game began to click. Owusu "Chief" Anane (Boys and Girls, Brooklyn) had 100 yards rushing on 13 carries for the Vikings and a touchdown to begin the scoring frenzy in the second half. His backfield partner, Ismail Jordan (Watertown, Watertown) added 93 yards on 13 carries including a 42-yard touchdown run to make the score 28-7 before the end of the third quarter. In the fourth, defensive back Dexter Geohagan (Far Rockaway, Far Rockaway) added another defensive touchdown as he picked off the ASC quarterback for the third time and returned it 54 yards to the end zone, making the final score 35-7.
The Vikings' football team will look to make it three wins in a row as they travel to play Globe Institute of Technology in Brooklyn, Saturday, Oct. 24.
