The Hudson Valley Community College football team suffered a 25-10 loss to Dean College on a rain-soaked Veterans Memorial Field in Troy today.
Hudson Valley held an early 6-3 lead after freshman running back Reidrick Alceus (Haverstraw/North Rockland High School) carried the ball into the end zone from two yards away with 11:25 remaining in the second quarter.
However, Dean sophomore quarterback Anthony Rodriguez (Homestead, FL) hit sophomore wide receiver Calvin Belfon (Somerville, MA) with touchdown passes from 30-yards away and 17-yards out on the Bulldogs next two possessions, which gave Dean a 16-6 lead at the break.
Hudson Valley cut its deficit to 16-8 in the third quarter when a poor Dean snap went through the back of the end zone.
Dean went up 22-10 with 13:07 remaining in the game when Rodriguez ran it in from six yards out. The extra point attempt was blocked and Hudson Valley's Gerard Atkinson (Yonkers/Roosevelt High School) ran it back for two points. The touchdown was set up after a bad snap by the Hudson Valley punt team that put Dean on the Vikings six yard line.
Hudson Valley's offense was never really able to threaten Dean in the second half. The Vikings finished with just 120 yards of total offense. Alceus carried the ball 23 times for 99 yards
Dean managed 235 yards of total offense, including 173 yards through the air by Rodriguez. Sophomore running back Chris Griggs (Winston-Salem, NC) rushed for 73 yards.
With the win, Dean (4-0/9-0) clinched the Northeast Football Conference championship. Hudson Valley (2-3/5-3) will host Navy Prep at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 3. The Vikings will then have a chance to win the Region III championship when they host Erie Community College on Saturday, November 10 in the Region III championship game.
