Sophomore running back Bobby Ransom (Brooklyn/North Florida Christian School) rushed for 144 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Hudson Valley Community College (2-0) football team to a 49-7 win over Army Prep (1-1) this evening at Michie Stadium in West Point.
Hudson Valley scored on its first two possessions and held a 21-0 lead after the opening quarter. The Vikings took a 7-0 lead on an 18-yard run by Ransom on their first offensive play of the game. The play was set up after sophomore defensive back Marcus Graham (New Brunswick, NJ/Westfield High School) had a 59-yard interception return.
Freshman quarterback Dan McLaughlin (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs High School) hit freshman wide receiver Kamar Jordan (Darby, PA/Penn Wood High School) with a 35-yard touchdown pass to put the Vikings up 14-0 halfway through the first quarter. McLaughlin completed 11-of-15 passes for 127 yards and a touchdown on the day.
Ransom would then tack on two more first half touchdowns to give Hudson Valley a 28-0 lead at the break.
Hudson Valley's defense held Army prep scoreless until the hosts scored with 19 minutes remaining in the game.
Sophomore linebacker David James (Forestville, MD/Oxon Hill High School) led the Vikings defense with seven tackles. Freshman Gavin Nelson (Somerville, MA/Somerville High School) blocked two punts in the game, including one in the end zone that freshman Jerome Antoine (Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield High School) fell on in the end zone for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Hudson Valley will host No. 6 Lackawanna College at 1 p.m. next Saturday, September 15.
