Wyatt Middleton's interception at the goal line with 23 seconds remaining in the game lifted Navy Prep to a 23-18 win over Hudson Valley Community College on Saturday in Troy.
Trailing 23-12 late in the fourth quarter, Hudson Valley went 55 yards on nine plays and quarterback Steve Agars (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa High School) hit wide receiver David Smith (Jersey City, NJ/Ferris High School) with a one-yard touchdown pass to cut the deficit to 23-18 with 2:46 remaining.
On the ensuing onside kick, freshman Nick Carr (Colonie/Colonie High School) raced down the left sideline to make the recovery for Hudson Valley.
Hudson Valley then drove the ball to Navy Prep's 15-yard line. On fourth down and seven with 23 seconds remaining, Agars pass over the middle went through the receiver's hands and into the arms of Middleton.
Agars completed 17-of-31 passes for 156 yards and a touchdown. Smith caught seven passes for 51 yards.
Sophomore Kyle Bowen (Albany/Bishop Maginn High School) had an 89-yard interception return for a touchdown for Hudson Valley in the second quarter. It is his third interception return for a touchdown this year.
Freshman Jihad Morris (Newburgh/Newburgh Free Academy) led the Vikings defense with 13 tackles.
Ricky Dobbs rushed for 128 yards to lead Navy Prep.
Hudson Valley finishes its season with a 5-4 record. It is the 16th winning season in the last 17 years for the Vikings.
