Calvin Smith (McKeesport, PA/McKeesport High School), a freshman running back on the Hudson Valley Community College football team, was named the Northeast Football Conference's Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in Hudson Valley's 23-17 overtime win over Alfred State College last Saturday.
Smith carried the ball 31 times for 188 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Vikings. He had six carries for 25 yards and the game-winning score in overtime.
After a 2-1 start on the road this season, Hudson Valley will host Erie Community College (2-1) at noon this Saturday, September 30 in the home opener. If Hudson Valley wins, the Vikings will clinch their fourth consecutive Region III championship and their sixth in seven years.
