Hudson Valley Community College closed out Northeast Football Conference play with a 21-9 loss at Dean College on Saturday.
Dean opened a 15-0 first quarter lead on a 66-yard touchdown pass from Keenan Kelly to Terry Hatfield and a 12-yard scoring run by Paul McKinnis.
Sophomore quarterback Jon Shanks (Millbrook/Millbrook High School) hit sophomore wide receiver Demarcus White (Laurel, MD/Laurel High School) with a 33-yard touchdown pass to cut the Vikings deficit to 15-7 with 8:48 remaining in the second quarter.
However, on the ensuing possession, Dean marched the ball 61 yards and McKinnis scored from two yards out to give the Bulldogs a 21-7 advantage.
Kelly was 10-for-22 for 159 yards to lead Dean. McKinnis carried the ball 25 times for 67 yards.
Sophomore running back Dane Samuels (New City/Clarkstown High School) rushed for 74 yards to lead the Vikings. In the process, he became Hudson Valley second all-time leading rusher with 1,740 yards. he surpassed former Hudson valley standout Dennis Greene, who had 1.724 yards in 1971 and 1972.
Hudson Valley outgained Dean in total yards, 210-202, but committed four turnovers.
Hudson Valley had its record drop to 5-4 on the season. Dean improves to 4-4 on the year. Hudson Valley will finish its season at Union JV next Sunday, November 6. A Hudson Valley win would give the Vikings their third straight winning season and their 14th winning season in 16 years.
