The Hudson Valley Community College (1-1) football team got a school-record four interceptions from freshman Dale Williams (Adelphi, MS/Northwestern High School) and rolled to a 63-12 win over the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute JV (0-1) team earlier today on Veterans Memorial Field.
Sophomore quarterback Jonah Chappell (Brownfield, ME/Fryeburg Academy) became only the fifth quarterback in Hudson Valley history to throw for four touchdown passes in a game. He completed six-of-11 passes for 91 yards. Three of Chappell's touchdown passes landed in the arms of freshman wide receiver Ricky Johnson (Newport News, VA/Heritage High School), who finished with four receptions for 42 yards.
Hudson Valley finished with 405 yards of total offense, including 299 yards on the ground. Freshman Ervin Battle-Baldwin (Richmond, VA/Huguenot High School) had 10 carries for 91 yards, and freshman Dane Samuels (Clarkstown/Clarkstown High School) contributed 10 carries for 75 yards and a touchdown.
Freshman Josh Chiappone (Troy/Troy High School) completed 14-of 31 passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns to lead RPI JV on the day.
The Vikings defense picked off six passes on the day. Freshman Philip Smith (Copiague/Copiague High School) returned an interception 61 yards for a touchdown, and returned a blocked punt 23 yards for a score.
Hudson Valley will play its Northeast Football Conference opener on Saturday, September 18 when the Vikings host Dean College. Kick off is set for 1 p.m.
