The Hudson Valley Community College football team will meet the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute junior varsity club on Sunday, September 14 at 1 p.m. on Veterans Memorial Field.
Hudson Valley has played RPI JV every year since 1992. The Vikings have won all 11 games in the series, including a 35-13 win at RPI last season.
Hudson Valley (1-0) defeated Navy Prep, 30-0, in the season opener on September 6. Sophomore running back Emmanuel Marc (Spring Valley/Spring Valley High School) carried the ball 30 times for 151 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Sophomore quarterback Ryan Gribulis (Kerhonkson/Rondout Valley High School) completed 10-of-14 passes for 86 yards.
Hudson Valley's football program was established in 1969. At the time, Hudson Valley was one of only two junior colleges in New York to field a varsity football team. Since then, nearly 300 Hudson Valley football players have earned scholarships to four-year schools and 15 have gone on to play professionally. The Vikings competed in the Coca-Cola Bowl in Iowa in 1980. In 1996, Hudson Valley posted an 8-0 record, part of a dominant stretch that included 15 straight victories.
