Football

Freshman running back Emmanuel Marc (Spring Valley, NY/Spring Valley High School) rushed for 265 yards and a school-record five touchdowns to lead Hudson Valley Community College (4-5) to a 38-10 win over visiting Union JV on Sunday, November 3.

In addition to his five scores, Marc dented the Hudson Valley record book in other ways as well. He finished the season with 1,235 rushing yards, which puts him second on the school's single season list behind only Dan Vergine, who had 1,250 yards in 1999. His 265 rushing yards against Union are second to only Dwight Slater's 294 yards against Siena in 1975.

Marc became the fourth player in Hudson Valley history to rush for over 1,000 yards in a season when he took the ball up the right side for a 69-yard touchdown on the team's second play from scrimmage.

Following a Union field goal, Marc was off to the races again for a 73-yard score on Hudson Valley's fourth offensive play. He also scored on runs of 17, 26 and 10 yards in the game.

The Hudson Valley defense was no less impressive, amassing 10 sacks on the day, including four by Shadee Davis (New Brunswick, NJ/New Brunswick High School) and three each by Frantzy Dorlean (Spring Valley, NY/Ramapo High School) and James Delpeche (Canarsie, NY/Canarsie High School). Davis finished with seven sacks on the year and completed his career in second place on the school's all-time sack list with 14.5.

The Hudson Valley defense allowed only 201.8 yards per-game this season, which is second in the Northeast Football Conference (NFC). Linebacker Mike Miller (Akron, OH/Firestone High School) led the team with 62 tackles. He also had two interceptions and three fumble recoveries. Francis Brown (Camden, NJ/Camden High School) tops the NFC with five interceptions to go along with his 40 tackles and nine pass breakups.

Offensively, Hudson Valley gained 307 yards per game. Tight end Anthony Martinez (Colonie/Colonie High School) caught 26 passes for 358 yards and three touchdowns while Marc finished the 2002 campaign with a team-high 12 touchdowns.

Women's Basketball

The Hudson Valley (1-1) women's basketball team opened the 2002-03 season on a high note with a 55-45 win over Finger Lakes Community College on Friday, November 1, but fell at Cayuga Community College 68-64 on Sunday.

Carolyn Keeler (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes High School) and Angela Von Wergers (Albany, NY/Bishop Gibbons High School) had 12 points and nine rebounds apiece to lead Hudson Valley past Finger Lakes.

The Lady Vikings pulled away from the visiting Lakers midway through the second half, extending a 30-27 lead with 14:49 remaining to 53-37 with 1:52 left in the game. Tanya DeLaMater (Troy, NY/Tamarac High School), Casey Brinkman (Troy, NY/Troy High School) and Keeler all hit three-point buckets during the run.

Lindsey Frament (Waterford, NY/Catholic Central) added 10 points for Hudson Valley while DeLaMater finished with 10 assists and four steals.

Hudson Valley made only 14 of 29 free throws in the four-point loss at Cayuga.

DeLaMater had 22 points to lead the Lady Vikings. Von Wergers netted 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds while Keeler chipped in with 11 points.

DeLaMater leads the Lady Vikings with 14 points and 7.5 assists per game. Von Wergers is averaging 12 points and 10.5 rebounds per contest and Keeler has scored 23 points in two games.

Men's Basketball

Hudson Valley forward Markael Brace (Albany, NY/Albany High School) had a career-high 31 points but it wasn't enough as host Cayuga defeated Hudson Valley 93-84 on Sunday.

Hudson Valley (0-1) held a 19 point advantage at one point in the first half and a 46-33 halftime lead, but couldn't hold on as Cayuga made 11 three-point buckets in the game to take the win.

Also finishing in double figures scoring for Hudson Valley were Jamel Robinson (Brooklyn, NY/Berkshire High School) and DaQuan Young (Albany, NY/Bishop Maginn High School), who finished with 12 and 10 points respectively.

Ice Hockey

The Hudson Valley ice hockey team lost to visiting 15-time NJCAA national champion Canton 12-0 on Saturday, November 2.

Freshman goaltender Sean George (Albany, NY/CBA) made 40 saves for the Vikings (0-1).
