The Northeast Football Conference (NFC) recently recognized Emmanuel Marc (Spring Valley, NY/Spring Valley High School), James Delpeche (Canarsie, NY/Canarsie High School) and Justin Clarke (Middletown, NJ/Middletown High School) for their performance in Hudson Valley Community College's 38-10 win over Union JV on Sunday, November 3.
Marc was named the NFC's Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season after carrying the ball 23 times for 265 yards and a school-record five touchdowns against the Dutchmen. He finished the season with 1,235 rushing yards, which is just 15 yards shy of Hudson Valley's single-season rushing record (1,250 yards), set by Dan Vergine in 1999. Marc led the NFC with 137.2 rushing yards per game and 12 touchdowns.
Delpeche earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades after registering 12 tackles and three sacks against Union. He finished the season with 36 tackles and seven sacks.
Clarke was named the league's Special Teams Player of the Week for the second straight week. He hit all five extra point attempts and kicked a 21-yard field goal on Sunday. After taking over the kicking duties midway through the season, Clarke hit all three of his field goal attempts, including a season-long 42-yarder against Nassau.
Hudson Valley's football program was established in 1969. At the time, Hudson Valley was one of only two junior colleges in New York to field a varsity football team. Since then, nearly 300 Hudson Valley football players have earned scholarships to four-year schools and 15 have gone on to play professionally. The Vikings competed in the Coca-Cola Bowl in Iowa in 1980. In 1996, Hudson Valley posted an 8-0 record, part of a dominant stretch that included 15 straight victories.
