FOR RELEASE: Immediate, Friday, October 26, 2002
Sean Treasure (Baldwin High School) rushed for 122 yards and two touchdowns, and Shaine Smith (Ausust Martin) caught five balls for 127 yards to lead Nassau Community College to a 19-13 win over Hudson Valley Community College earlier tonight in Uniondale, NY.
Hudson Valley drops to 3-5 while Nassau improves to 4-4 on the season. Four of Hudson Valley's setbacks this season have come by nine points or less.
Freshman running back Emmanuel Marc (Spring Valley, NY/Spring Valley) carried the ball 29 times for 152 yards and one touchdown to lead the Vikings. He has gained over 100 yards in four the last five games and is only 30 yards shy of becoming the third player in Hudson Valley history to rush for over 1,000 yards in one season.
Treasure's final score was set up when quarterback Abbri Jones (Orange), on a third down play, avoided several onrushing defenders and found Smith downfield for a 59-yard pass play that gave the Lions the ball on the Vikings three yard line. Two plays later, Treasure punched it in to give Nassau the 19-13 advantage with only 7:50 remaining in the contest.
Marc opened the scoring when he ran it in from one yard out with 7:02 remaining in the opening quarter. The score was part of a 13-play, 80-yard drive in which quarterback Marques Ingram (Queens/Lyndon Institute) hit tight end Anthony Martinez (Colonie/Colonie) on third down pass plays of 10 and 27 yards to keep the drive alive.
Nassau tied the game up on its next possession with a 10-play, 57-yard drive that was capped off with a three-yard run for a touchdown by Treasure. The Lions took a 13-0 lead with 18 seconds remaining in the first half when Thomas English (Valley Stream) found Smith for a 17-yard score.
Hudson Valley regained the momentum heading into the break when Justin Clarke (Middletown, NJ/Middletown) kicked a 42-yard field goal as time expired to cut the Vikings deficit in half. Clarke's field goal was the first for Hudson Valley since September 10, 2000.
A 21-yard field goal by Clarke tied the game with 6:23 remaining in the third quarter.
Linebacker Audwin Davis (Tuckahoe/Tuckahoe) had 13 tackles, including two tackles for loss, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery to lead the Hudson Valley defense while Mike Miller (Akron, OH/Firestone) had 11 tackles for the Vikings.
Hudson Valley will return home next Sunday, November 3 to face Union JV. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
