Emmanuel Marc (Spring Valley, NY/Spring Valley) rushed for 243 yards and two touchdowns to lead Hudson Valley Community College (3-2, 2-1 Northeast Football Conference) to a 28-0 win over SUNY Canton on Saturday, October 5 in Canton, NY. It was the first shutout for the Hudson Valley defense since a 21-0 win over Canton on September 9, 2001.
Marc's 243 yards are the third most in Hudson Valley history and the most since Dan Vergine rushed for 247 yards against Navy Prep in 1999. His first score of the day came on a 20-yard scamper during the Vikings opening drive. He also had a nine-yard touchdown run with 9:30 remaining in the game to put the Northstars away.
The Hudson Valley defense showed why it is one of the best in the NFC, allowing only 145 yards and forcing four turnovers. Mike Miller (Akron, OH/Firestone) gave the defense its second score of the season when he ran back an interception 38 yards with 5:42 remaining. Jermaine Price (Ameina/Pemberton) led the Vikings with 11 tackles. Frantzy Dorlean (Spring Valley/Ramapo) added seven, and Shadee Davis (New Brunswick, NJ/New Brunswick) chipped in with six tackles and two sacks.
Ryan Gribulis (Kerhonkson/Rondout Valley), making his first career start at quarterback, completed six of 16 passes for 53 yards as Hudson Valley did much of its damage on the ground.
Marc raised his season rushing average to 111.6 yards per game and now leads the team with four touchdowns. Larry Starks II (Watervliet/Watervliet) added another chapter to his already extensive special teams resume. Starks II punted twice against Canton for a 38.5 yard average. He also is averaging 35.8 yards per-kickoff return and 14.5 yards per-punt return.
The Hudson Valley defense is allowing only 182.6 yards of total offense per-game, second best in the NFC. Francis Brown (Camden, NJ/Woodrow Wilson) leads the team with 27 tackles, two interceptions and five pass breakups.
