Emmanuel Marc (Spring Valley, NY/Spring Valley) rushed for 243 yards and two touchdowns to lead Hudson Valley Community College to a 28-0 win over SUNY Canton earlier today in Canton, NY. It was the first shutout for the Hudson Valley defense since a 21-0 win over Canton on September 9, 2001.
Hudson Valley improves to 3-2 and 2-1 in the Northeast Football Conference (NFC). Canton drops to 0-5 and 0-2 in the NFC.
Marc's 243 yards are the third most in Hudson Valley history and the most since Dan Vergine rushed for 247 yards against Navy Prep in 1999. His first score of the day came on a 20-yard scamper during the Vikings opening drive. He also had a nine yard touchdown run with 9:30 remaining in the game to put the Northstars away.
The Northstars marched down to the Hudson Valley three-yard line on their next drive, helped out by a 27-yard pass play from quarterback Pat Burrows (Miami, Fla.) to Ricardo Cabrera (Miami, Fla.). The drive was stalled when Canton fumbled on fourth and goal.
The Hudson Valley defense showed why it is one of the best in the NFC, allowing only 145 yards and forcing four turnovers. Mike Miller (Akron, OH/Firestone) gave the defense its second score of the season when he ran back an interception 38 yards with 5:42 remaining. Jermaine Price (Ameina, NY/Pemberton) led the Vikings with 11 tackles. Frantzy Dorlean (Spring Valley, NY/Ramapo) added seven, and Shadee Davis (New Brunswick, NJ/New Brunswick) chipped in with six tackles and two sacks.
Ryan Gribulis (Kerhonkson, NY/Rondout Valley), making his first career start at quarterback, completed six of 16 passes for 53 yards as Hudson Valley did much of its damage on the ground.
Hudson Valley will return home next Saturday when it hosts 11th-ranked Erie Community College at 1 p.m.
