The football team at Hudson Valley Community College will hold a Media Day on Friday, August 30. Players and coaches will be available for interviews and photographs from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. at Hudson Valley's Veteran's Memorial Field. That session will be followed by a 4:30 p.m. practice at the North Greenbush town field, located across from Hudson Valley, on Williams Road.
In the event of rain, the Media Day will be held in Hudson Valley's Conway Ice Arena, which is located in the McDonough Sports Complex.
The Vikings were 6-2 in 2001 and 13 Vikings earned All-Northeast Football Conference status. Second-year tight end Anthony Martinez (Colonie H.S.), second-year linebacker Mike Miller (Firestone, OH) and returning defensive back Micah Germany (Schenley, P.A.) were recently labeled as players to watch by the National Junior College Athletic Association.
In the 2001-02 academic year, Hudson Valley's athletic teams combined to win 65 percent of their contests. The college's softball team traveled to Illinois for the national championship tournament and finished second in the country, and the women's basketball team placed seventh in the nation. Hudson Valley's football team won the Northeast Football Conference, and the baseball and bowling squads each added a Mountain Valley Conference title. Additionally, three Vikings earned Region III Player-of-the-Year status and eight were honored with All-American status.
