Hudson Valley Community College's athletes and teams are well represented on the weekly NJCAA Region III athletic report released today. The report includes statistics from more than 30 two-year colleges from across the Northeast.
- Hudson Valley's football team (4-2) is ranked first in passing offense (174.3 yards per game) and passing defense (87.0 yards allowed per game) in Region III and in the Northeast Football Conference. The Vikings are second in total team offense (337.5 yards). Hudson Valley is third in total team defense (197.3 yards), rushing offense (163.2 yards) and rushing defense (110.3 yards). The Vikings travel to Alfred State (4-1) for a 1:30 p.m.game on Saturday, October 14.
Individually, defensive back Derrick Black (Tarboro, NC) is ranked first in Region III with five interceptions. He has returned an interception and a kickoff for a touchdown. Jim Canfield (Troy) is second with four interceptions. Quarterback Justin Kastner's (Hudson) 806 yards rank first, as do wide receiver Shawn Miller's (Troy) 21 catches. Tailback Gary Jones (Ravena) is second with 10 touchdowns and third with 560 yards rushing. Kicker James Muscatello (Cohoes) is second with 21 points on two field goals and 15 extra points. He ‘s also ranked third with an of 34.2 yards per punt. Linebacker Keith Hill (Pittsburgh, PA) has 52 tackles, tops in Region III. Wide receiver Derrick Dyer (John Marshall) is fifth with 15 receptions.
- The Vikings' men's soccer team (10-3) is ranked fifth in Region III and 14th in the nation among NJCAA Division III teams. Stanley Kowalczyk (Sanford, FL) is the fourth-ranked goalie, allowing just .875 goals per game. Hudson Valley travels to Mohawk Valley Community College (12-1) for a 1 p.m. contest on Saturday, October 14.
