Hudson Valley's Football Team Leads The Way
With Six Players Among The Statistical Leaders
Hudson Valley Community College has a strong presence on the weekly Region III athletic report released today. The report includes statistics from more than 30 colleges from across the Northeast.
- Hudson Valley's football team (1-1) is ranked first in total team offense (375.0 yards per game) and passing offense (229.0 yards) in Region III and in the Northeast Football Conference. The Vikings are second in total team defense (166.5 yards allowed per game) and passing defense (90.0 yards), third in rushing defense (76.5 yards) and fourth in rushing offense (146.0 yards). The Vikings travel to SUNY Morrisville (0-2) on Saturday, September 16 for a 1 p.m. matchup.
- Individually, Shawn Miller (Troy) is the top wide receiver. Miller, a freshman, has a Region-high nine catches (4.5 per contest). His 306 yards is 203 ahead of the next listed receiver. Derrick Black (Tarboro, NC) is first with two interceptions. Vuntrail Johnson (Tarboro, NC) is tied for second with one interception. James Muscatello (Cohoes) is the kicking leader, he has twelve points on two field goals and six extra points. He is also the fifth-ranked punter, averaging 32.0 yards per attempt. Tailback Gary Jones (Ravena) is third in rushing (131 yards in two games) and scoring (three touchdowns). Justin Kastner (Hudson) has passed for 296 yards, third-best.
- The Vikings' men's soccer team (3-0) is ranked fifth. Austin Gagnon (Tamarac) is the third-ranked goalie, allowing just one score in a pair of games. Hudson Valley hosts the defending NJCAA Division III champions, Herkimer County Community College (4-0), at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 16.
- Jennifer Dufore (Ballston Spa) is rated fifth in hitting efficiency (28.5%) among female volleyball players. The Vikings (0-3-1) play at Fulton-Montgomery Community College (0-2-2) at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 16.
Hudson Valley Community College, located in Troy, offers more than 50 degree and certificate programs in four academic divisions: Business, Engineering and Industrial Technologies, Health Sciences, and Liberal Arts and Sciences.
