Baseball Defeats #4 Erie in the First Round of Regionals

GAME ONE: HVCC 7 - ERIE 6
The Vikings took Sunday's game in dramatic fashion, with a 7-6 walk-off victory over Erie. The game was tied at six in the bottom of the ninth when Niko Sorice doubled, scoring one run. The Vikings rallied for the victory despite trailing 5-0 in the second.
The Vikings scored five runs on two hits in the bottom of the eighth inning. Jameson Balich hit a solo home run to left field, Brendan Connolly drew a walk, scoring one run, Aidan Heffner hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and Christian Aguilar doubled, scoring two runs.
Jimmy Wilson earned the win for the Vikings. The righty gave up three hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out two and walking none. Tyler Murray pitched four and one-third innings in relief for the Vikings. The right-handed pitcher gave up four hits and one run while, striking out two and walking five. Tyler Spenard stepped on the mound first for the Vikings. The pitcher surrendered five hits and five runs (one earned) over one and two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking one.
The Vikings accumulated nine hits in the game. Aguilar, the number nine hitter for the Vikings, led the way with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-4 on the day. Nico DeSanto and Matthew Carrera each collected two hits for the Vikings. Connolly stole two bases. the Vikings ran wild on the base paths, amassing three stolen bases for the game. The Vikings turned one double play in the game.
GAME TWO: HVCC 8 - ERIE 6
Aidan Heffner collected four hits in four at bats, as the Vikings defeated Erie 8-6 in game 2. Heffner doubled in the third inning, singled in the sixth inning, singled in the fifth inning, and singled in the eighth inning. The Vikings got on the board in the third inning after Logan Norman singled, scoring one run.
Jameson Balich hit a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the fourth for the the Vikings. The Vikings took the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Matthew Carrera doubled, scoring two runs, to give the Vikings the upper hand, 4-3. In the bottom of the sixth, the Vikings broke up the tie when Heffner singled, scoring one run. Then a single by Carrera followed to extend the lead to 6-4.
Hunter Stolov earned the win for the Vikings. The pitcher allowed five hits and three runs over five innings, striking out four and walking three. Alex Deitz tossed one inning of zero-run ball for the Vikings in relief. The right-handed pitcher surrendered zero hits, striking out two and walking one.
The Vikings amassed 11 hits in the game. Carrera led the Vikings with three runs batted in. The shortstop went 2-for-5 on the day. Niko Sorice and Norman each collected multiple hits for the Vikings. Carrera stole two bases. The Vikings ran wild on the base paths, collecting five stolen bases for the game. The Vikings turned one double play in the game. The Vikings didn't commit a single error in the field. Sorice had the most chances in the field with seven.
The Vikings advance to the next round which will be played on Thursday, May 15th.
