GAME ONE: HVCC 18 - MOHAWK VALLEY 0
Hunter Stolov was dominant on the bump, as the pitcher rang up 10 strikeouts in the Vikings's 18-0 victory over Mohawk Valley on Thursday at Joe Bruno Stadium. Stolov surrendered three hits and zero runs over seven innings while walking none.
The Vikings won thanks in part to 12 runs in the seventh inning. Brendan Connolly singled, scoring one run, Aidan Heffner singled, scoring one run, Jayden Kennedy singled, scoring one run, Brendan Shea drew a walk, scoring one run, Justin Ogando drew a walk, scoring one run, Carson Jenkins-Antle singled, scoring two runs, Michael Lazaridis was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Kennedy singled, scoring two runs, and Shea tripled, scoring two runs.
The Vikings jumped out to the lead in the top of the second inning after Matthew Carrera singled, scoring one run, Logan Norman doubled, scoring two runs, and Nico DeSanto singled, scoring one run.
The Vikings collected 19 hits in the game. Kennedy led the Vikings with three runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Norman, Carrera, and Heffner each collected three hits for the Vikings. Shea and Niko Sorice each collected multiple hits for the Vikings. Kennedy led the Vikings with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying nine walks for the game. Stolov threw an immaculate inning in the second, striking out the side on nine pitches. The Vikings turned one double play in the game.
GAME TWO: HVCC 8 - MOHAWK VALLEY 0
Logan Norman drove in four runs on two hits to lead the Vikings past Mohawk Valley 8-0.
Norman doubled in the second inning, scoring three runs, and doubled in the first inning, scoring one.
The Vikings got on the board in the first inning after Norman doubled, scoring one run. They added three runs in the second. Norman doubled to center field, making the score 4-0. The Vikings extended their early lead with two runs in the top of the third thanks to RBI doubles by Brendan Connolly and Carson Jenkins-Antle.
Pierson Davis earned the win for the Vikings. The righty gave up two hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out three and walking five. Tyler Murray and Kyle Bartlett each came on in relief for the Vikings and shutdown Mohawk Valley.
The Vikings accumulated 10 hits in the game. Jameson Balich and Norman each collected two hits for the Vikings.
The Vikings return home on Saturday for round 2 against the Hawks at 12pm and 2pm.
