GAME ONE: HVCC 12 - COLUMBIA GREENE 2
The Vikings won big over Columbia Greene 12-2 on Friday.
The Vikings got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Jameson Balich walked, Niko Sorice was struck by a pitch, Brendan Connolly grounded out, Aidan Heffner grounded out, and Jayden Kennedy walked, each scoring one run. The Vikings added three more runs in the bottom of the second inning on three hits. Logan Norman homered to right field, scoring two runs, and Sorice doubled, scoring one run.
Tyler Spenard earned the win for the Vikings. The starting pitcher gave up six hits and two runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out eight and walking none.
Balich drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Vikings with three runs batted in. The infielder went 2-for-2 on the day. Nico DeSanto went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Vikings in hits. The Vikings had patience at the plate, amassing eight walks for the game. Norman, Matthew Carrera, and Kennedy led the team with two bases on balls each.
GAME TWO: HVCC 18 - COLUMBIA GREENE 0
Aidan Heffner drove in four runs on two hits to lead the Vikings past Columbia Greene 18-0 in game 2. Heffner hit a home run to left field in the second inning, scoring three runs, and singled in the third inning, scoring one.
Alex Deitz struck out 12 batters on the day. The righty also gave up two hits and zero runs over five innings while walking none. The Vikings got on the board in the bottom of the second inning after Niko Sorice doubled, scoring one run, Heffner homered to left field, scoring three runs, and a passed ball scored one run.
The Vikings scored eight runs on four hits in the bottom of the third inning. Heffner singled, scoring one run, Carson Jenkins-Antle drew a walk, scoring one run, Brendan Shea singled, scoring one run, Matthew Carrera singled, scoring two runs, an error scored one run, Logan Norman singled, scoring one run, and Jameson Balich grounded out, scoring one run. The Vikings scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Nico DeSanto drew a walk, scoring one run, Norman singled, scoring two runs, and Balich doubled, scoring two runs.
The Vikings amassed 10 hits in the game. Balich, Norman, and Heffner each collected two hits for the Vikings. Jenkins-Antle led the Vikings with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating eight walks for the game. The Vikings didn't commit a single error in the field. Sorice had the most chances in the field with 11.
The Vikings host Mohawk Valley at home on Thursday for a double header at 2pm and 4pm.
