Baseball Sweeps Jefferson in 2 Games

GAME ONE: HVCC 15 - JCC 2
Nico DeSanto drove in six runs on two hits to lead the Vikings past SUNY Jefferson 15-2 on Thursday at Jefferson. DeSanto hit a grand slam to right field in the fourth inning, scoring four runs, and doubled in the fourth inning, scoring two.
The Vikings won thanks in part to 10 runs in the fourth inning. DeSanto hit a grand slam to right field, Jameson Balich singled, scoring one run, Jefferson's pitcher induced Aidan Heffner to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, an error scored one run, Matthew Carrera hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and DeSanto doubled, scoring two runs. The Vikings got on the board in the top of the second inning after Jayden Kennedy walked, Christian Aguilar walked, and Carrera hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run. The Vikings added one run in the third after Brendan Connolly singled down the left field line.
Pierson Davis earned the win for the Vikings. The righty allowed three hits and two runs over five innings, striking out six and walking one.
The Vikings tallied 10 hits in the game. Balich led the Vikings with three hits in three at bats. Logan Norman and Connolly each collected multiple hits for the Vikings. The Vikings had patience at the plate, collecting eight walks for the game. Aguilar and Kennedy led the team with two free passes each. The Vikings were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Niko Sorice made the most plays with six.
GAME TWO: HVCC 7 - JCC 3
The Vikings won the second game over SUNY Jefferson Cannoneers 7-3.
The Vikings flipped the game on its head in the top of the fourth, scoring five runs on three hits to take the lead, 5-1. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Brendan Connolly that drove in one. Logan Norman hit a solo home run to right field in the top of the seventh for the Vikings.
Connor Trudeau earned the win for the Vikings. The hurler allowed three hits and three runs (one earned) over four and two-thirds innings, striking out six and walking two. Hunter Stolov tossed two and one-third innings of shutout ball for the Vikings in relief. The pitcher surrendered zero hits, striking out two and walking none.
Jameson Balich and Matthew Carrera each collected two hits for the Vikings. Carrera led the Vikings with two runs batted in. The leadoff hitter went 2-for-3 on the day.
The Vikings return home on Friday as they welcome Columbia Greene to Joe Bruno Stadium. The double header will start at 2pm.
