Baseball Completes 4-0 Sweep Over Cayuga

GAME ONE: HVCC 1 - CAYUGA 0
Both teams were strong on the mound on Saturday, but the Vikings defeated Cayuga 1-0. Tyler Spenard started the game for the Vikings and recorded 21 outs.
An early lead helped propel the Vikings to victory. the Vikings scored one run on a walk in the first inning. Spenard earned the win for the Vikings. The hurler surrendered one hit and zero runs over seven innings, striking out seven and walking one.
Brendan Connolly led the Vikings with one hit in two at bats. Matthew Carrera stole two bases. The Vikings stole three bases in the game. The Vikings were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Niko Sorice had the most chances in the field with seven.
GAME TWO: HVCC 15 - CAYUGA 1
Aidan Heffner collected four hits in four at bats, as the Vikings defeated Cayuga 15-1 on Saturday at Cayuga Community College. Heffner singled in the fifth inning, singled in the second inning, singled in the fourth inning, and singled in the sixth inning.
A single by Jameson Balich on the seventh pitch of the at-bat put the Vikings on the board in the top of the first. The Vikings added one run in the third. Logan Norman singled down the right field line, making the score 2-0.
The Vikings scored five runs on five hits in the top of the fifth inning. Jayden Kennedy drew a walk, scoring one run, Heffner singled, scoring one run, Brendan Connolly singled, scoring one run, Christian Aguilar singled, scoring one run, and Matthew Carrera grounded out, scoring one run.
The Vikings scored five runs on two hits in the top of the sixth inning. Niko Sorice drew a walk, scoring one run, Kennedy hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, Connolly singled, scoring two runs, and Aguilar grounded out, scoring one run. Alex Deitz earned the win for the Vikings. The righty gave up one hit and one run over six innings, striking out nine and walking none.
The Vikings collected 15 hits in the game. Connolly, the number eight hitter for the Vikings, led the way with three runs batted in. The infielder went 2-for-2 on the day. Nico DeSanto, Norman, Carrera, and Balich each collected multiple hits for the Vikings. The Vikings had a strong eye at the plate, collecting eight walks for the game. Sorice and Norman led the team with two bases on balls each. The Vikings ran wild on the base paths, collecting four stolen bases for the game. The Vikings were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Sorice had the most chances in the field with nine.
