GAME ONE: HVCC 9 - NORTHERN ESSEX 4
Tyree Jackson collected three hits in three at bats, as the Vikings defeated Northern Essex 9-4 on Tuesday at the RussMatt Spring Invitational. Jackson hit a solo home run to left field in the sixth inning, doubled in the fourth inning, and singled in the second inning.
The Vikings got on the board in the top of the second inning after Niko Sorice doubled to center field, Matthew Carrera singled to right field, and Jackson singled to the left side of the infield, each scoring one run. The Vikings captured the lead, 5-3, in the top of the fourth after Nico DeSanto tripled down the right field line, and Jackson doubled down the left field line, each scoring one run. They scored one run in the top of the sixth on a solo home run to left field by Jackson.
Pierson Davis earned the win for the Vikings. The pitcher surrendered four hits and three runs over five innings, striking out five and walking six. Tyler Murray appeared in relief for the Vikings.
The Vikings amassed 11 hits in the game. Sorice and Carrera each collected multiple hits for the Vikings. the Vikings turned one double play in the game. The Vikings were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Sorice made the most plays with 10.
GAME TWO: HVCC 19 - NORTHERN ESSEX 5
The Vikings scored 13 runs in the second inning, which helped them defeat Northern Essex 19-5 in their second game of the day. Christian Aguilar was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Logan Norman doubled, scoring three runs, Jameson Balich homered to left field, scoring two runs, Aidan Heffner drew a walk, scoring one run, Matthew Carrera drew a walk, scoring one run, Nico DeSanto tripled, scoring three runs, and Aguilar homered to center field, scoring two runs. The Vikings jumped into the lead in the bottom of the first when DeSanto singled, scoring one run, and Tyree Jackson homered to left field, scoring two runs.
Connor Trudeau earned the win for the Vikings. The right-handed pitcher gave up three hits and three runs (one earned) over four innings, striking out five and walking three. Daniel Paton appeared in relief for the Vikings.
The Vikings tallied 11 hits in the game. Norman went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Vikings in hits. DeSanto and Norman each drove in four runs for the Vikings. Balich collected two hits for the Vikings in four at bats. Carrera paced the Vikings with two walks. Overall, the team was patient at the plate, tallying seven walks for the game.
The Vikings wrap up play at the RussMatt Invitational tomorrow as they face Waubonsee at 9am and Holyoke at 12pm.
