GAME ONE: HVCC 7 - MASSASOIT 3
The Hudson Valley Vikings bested Massasoit Community College 7-3 on Sunday at the RussMatt Spring Invitational.
Massasoit were the first to get on the board in the third when Cambra tripled, scoring one run. The Vikings took the lead in the top of the fifth. Logan Norman doubled, scoring two runs, to give the Vikings the edge, 2-1. Jeremy Graham earned the win for the Vikings. The pitcher allowed five hits and one run over three innings, striking out three and walking three. Jake O'Connor and Jimmy Wilson each appeared in relief for the Vikings.
The Vikings piled up 11 hits in the game. Niko Sorice, Norman, and Brendan Connolly each collected two hits for the Vikings. Sorice, Norman, and Aidan Heffner each drove in two runs. Matthew Carrera stole two bases. They stole eight bases in the game. The Vikings were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Sorice made the most plays with eight.
GAME TWO: HVCC 11 - MASSASOIT 1
The Vikings trailed by as many as five, but came back to defeat Massasoit on Sunday, 10-6. The Vikings flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fifth, scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead, 10-5. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Brendan Connolly that drove in three. Daniel Paton earned the win for the Vikings. The righty gave up one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out three and walking two. Brendan Shea led things off on the mound. The starter gave up four hits and three runs over one and one-third innings, striking out one and walking two. Kyle Bartlett tossed one inning of scoreless ball for the Vikings in relief. The lefty allowed zero hits, striking out two and walking two.
Connolly led the Vikings with three runs batted in. The second baseman went 1-for-1 on the day. Niko Sorice, Nico DeSanto, Logan Norman, Carrera, Connolly, Jameson Balich, and Aidan Heffner each collected one hit. The Vikings had a strong eye at the plate, tallying seven walks for the game. Michael Lazaridis and Jayden Kennedy led the team with two free passes each. Norman, Tyree Jackson, and Balich each stole multiple bases. They ran wild on the base paths, piling up nine stolen bases for the game.
The Vikings face Northern Essex for their next games on Tuesday at 9:30am and 12pm.
