The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team had its season come to a close as they dropped both sub-regional playoff games at Erie on Saturday afternoon in Buffalo, NY.
GAME ONE: Erie 2, Hudson Valley 0 (Final)
The first game of the series was a pitching duel between quality aces. The Vikings and Andrew Wilson were on the short-end of the duel as they were defeated 2-0. Wilson tossed a complete game and allowed two runs on six hits, while his counterpart, Erie's Staniszewski matched Wilson, allowed zero runs and one hit. The Vikings only hit came from Connor Waiting, a single to left field in the top of the seventh inning.
GAME TWO: Erie 2, Hudson Valley 0 (Final)
The second game and the Vikings season came to a close in heartbreaking fashion as Erie clawed their way back from a 11-4 deficit in the final two innings of the game. With the game ties at 11-11 in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Kats sent everyone home with a walk-off three-run home run
As a team, the Vikings offense tallied 11 runs on 13 hits and committed four defensive errors, which proved costly late in the game. Leading the way at the plate was Matthew Carrera, who finished with three RBIs on three hits.
Anthony Rizzo and Brendan Curry, two graduating sophomores, also played extremely well as they both accumulated three hits in the second game and combined to score four runs with three RBIs.
Jayden Hughes earned the start and pitched 3.2 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits. Hunter Stolov relieved Hughes and went the next 3.1 innings and also gave up four runs to the Kats. Cole Flannery took the loss and had to wait out a 30-minute rain delay in the bottom of the ninth inning before being relieved by William Baumann.
