The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team had its 16-game win streak snapped as they were defeated on the road at Cayuga on Tuesday afternoon in Auburn, NY.

GAME ONE: Cayuga 10, Hudson Valley 2 (Final)

The Vikings and Spartans started the game trading hits and runs in the first two innings as each program tallied two runs apiece early in the game. Cayuga responded in the bottom of the second to pull ahead 3-2, but ultimately it was the six-run fourth inning that blew the game open for the Spartans and the Vikings were unable to dig themselves out of the eight-run deficit.

As a team, the Vikings tallied two runs on four hits as they faced-off against one of Cayuga's top pitchers. Ethan Pues recorded the only extra-base hit for the Vikings, a triple to centerfield in the second inning. Pues later scored to tie the game at 2-2 after Aidan Chrysler recorded a sacrifice fly to deep center field.

On the mound, the Vikings ace, Hunter Stolov, couldn't find a rhythm as he allowed six runs on 10 hits over 3.1 innings pitched. Cole Flannery and Jason Savattere closed out the final 2.2 innings and combined to allow four runs on six hits.

GAME TWO: Cayuga 1, Hudson Valley 0 (Final)

In the final game of the day, the two programs found themselves in a pitching duel as both teams had strong performances from their starting pitchers. The Vikings starter, Jayden Hughes tossed a complete game and allowed one run (unearned) on five hits with one walk and seven strikeouts. Cayuga utilized two pitchers for the combined shutout victory to complete the sweep over the No. 10 ranked Vikings.

Matthew Carrera and Connor Waiting led the way for the Vikings offense as they combined for three of the team's five hits. Both Carrera and Waiting connected for doubles, but the hits were intermittent throughout the game and they couldn't find the timely hit as they left eight runners on base.

ON DECK:

All great programs will see historic win streaks come to an end, but the better programs will quickly move on and start building up another win streak. The Vikings will have an opportunity to get back into the win column on Thursday, April 18th as they travel to take on SUNY Adirondack at 2 p.m. in Queensbury, NY.
